ALIGNING COMMON CORE STANDARDS WITH MSSA REVISED CURRICULUM  AN AREA OF FOCUS DURING 2012.

The Executive Director, eight instructors and one county superintendent are beginning the process of aligning our curriculum to the new Common Core Standards.  Allison Nys of Pioneer School, Roxie Bulen and Shelby Blixt of Melrose School, Nancy McKinley of Gildford Colony School, Susan Seastrand of Ayers Colony School, Traci Manseau of Deerfield Colony School, Camy Paffhausen, Rick Nordahl of Beaverhead County High School and Linda Marsh, Beaverhead County Superintendent of Schools will assist the Director in aligning our current curriculum for MSSA schools to the new Montana Common Core Standards.  Our first task is to identify what we currently have in our curriculum that aligns with the Common Core.  Once that is complete, we will begin the process of alignment in all areas.  This year's focus is on ELA, Mathematics and Social Studies literacy.  This first phase should be near completion by the end of summer.  Science will be aligned in the 2012-2013 school year.  We intend to offer professional development to our member schools on the Common Core soon but probably next school year.
